Your relationships thrive when you do.
For over 50 years, Gottman research has revealed something powerful: relationships thrive when women’s voices are fully heard and valued. This Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating the unique communication patterns, emotional intelligence, and relationship insights that women bring to their partnerships – and providing science-backed tools to help these strengths flourish.
What our research reveals about women's relationship strengths
Our studies show that women often excel at emotional awareness, perspective-taking, and repair attempts during conflict – skills that are critical predictors of relationship success. Yet many women report feeling unheard or undervalued in their relationships.
The Gottman Method helps couples recognize and amplify these strengths, creating relationships where both partners feel deeply understood.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will John Gottman personally be conducting the workshop?
Live Bringing Baby Home Parent Workshops are presented by Educators who have completed the Bringing Baby Home Educator Training. These are professionals in your community who want to help parents and families through the transition to parenthood.
The on-demand Bringing Baby Home Parent Workshop is hosted by Joni Parthemer, MEd, and Julie Blackburn, who are both Bringing Baby Home Training Specialists. Joni Parthemer was a member of the original Bringing Baby Home research team.
Can we attend the workshop even if we aren’t married?
We strongly encourage all parents who are committed to creating a happy and health environment for their child(dren) to grow in. This includes parents who are married, in committed relationships, dating, co-parenting in separate households, single parents, and more.
If you do not have a partner to attend with you, we highly recommend bringing a trusted family member, friend, or caregiver who will be an integral part of your child’s life to attend as well.
Is this workshop appropriate for LGBTQ couples?
Yes. We welcome all families. While some of the workshop language is heteronormative, our curriculum does include research data on same-sex relationships.
Is the cost per person or per family?
Per family.
Can I give the parent workshop as a gift to someone else?
Yes. We also have Gift Certificates available upon request.
I’d love to come to your workshop, but my partner is a private person and is not comfortable sharing in a group setting. Is there public disclosure?
No problem. While there are some group exercises, participation is not mandatory. For in-person workshops, Educators are encouraged to provide enough space for families to engage privately. For live virtual workshops, you will be working in a breakout room setting.
Will we be left on our own or will we receive assistance?
The Bringing Baby Home Parent Workshop is a psycho-educational course rather than group therapy. Bringing Baby Home Educators are available to answer questions and clarify exercises, but they will not be providing therapeutic assistance.
Should I do anything to prepare?
There are no prerequisites to attending a parents workshop. The workshop is self-contained and is appropriate even if you’ve never heard of Drs. John and Julie Gottman, The Gottman Institute, or the Bringing Baby Home Program Some find it helpful to peruse the information and videos on our website, but even this is not required.
Can I bring my newborn?
Do you provide childcare?
Please check with your Bringing Baby Home Educator and/or event organizer directly to verify if they offer childcare options.
We do not live in Washington but we would like to attend a parent workshop in our area. Are workshops offered in other states or online?
Yes. While the Bringing Baby Home Program launched in Seattle, Educators are now around the world and we have an on-demand course if you are interested in independent learning.
You can learn more about live in-person or virtual parent workshops in your area on our Parent Events Page.
Do you provide discounts or scholarships to attend?
Please check with your Bringing Baby Home Educator and/or event organizer directly to verify their scholarship or discount opportunities.

A statement on anti-racism from The Gottman Institute
A statement on anti-racism from The Gottman Institute
The Gottman Institute is dedicated to strengthening love, compassion, trust, and commitment between human beings across the globe. We condemn all acts of racism and violence, particularly against the Black community. Black Lives Matter.
As an organization and as individuals, we commit to a path of learning, listening, and doing. We know we have many opportunities to do better. We are working as a team to uncover these opportunities and create action plans that demonstrate our commitment to embracing anti-racism as a core value.
Our team members, educators, partners, and community look to us for leadership, to share our expertise and knowledge, and to provide resources to help heal racial trauma in relationships. We aim to amplify the voices of Black researchers, clinicians, and content creators and to become a source of understanding, healing, and compassion. We have much to learn. Our minds and hearts are open and we are committed to doing the work.
A personal message from Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman, President and co-founder of The Gottman Institute
Once again we have witnessed racism in murderous action. Four policemen brutally killed an innocent black man – the last in a list of millions of murdered black innocents that extends back for centuries in this country. We at the Gottman Institute are heart-broken. We support those who are bravely and non-violently protesting in our streets. We support those who acknowledge and take responsibility for their own white privilege and the white supremacy we so easily take for granted. We applaud those who work to confront and reverse racism around them and within themselves. And we realize that change must begin with ourselves.
I am a white, cis-gendered Jewish woman of extreme privilege. I have greatly benefited from my whiteness, my upper middle-class upbringing and all the opportunities these conferred upon me. I have fought for civil rights throughout my life, but I also know that I too am racist as is my culture. I vow to continue working harder for increased self-awareness, to confront my own complacency, and to grow my own compassion for those whose suffering I can never fully understand. Let us all drop down and take a knee.
