Designed by Dr. Bob Navarra in collaboration with Drs. John and Julie Gottman
A Roadmap for the Journey is a research-based couples workshop designed to address the specific challenges often faced by couples impacted by an addictive disorder. Whether one or both of you are in recovery from substances and/or behavioral addictions, this workshop provides direction for your journey to couple recovery, supporting the relationship as well as the needs of each individual partner.
Couples learn how to build a solid foundation for recovery by balancing relationship needs with recovery needs. Information, tools, and support helps partners to define and establish boundaries and roles, effectively manage conflict, and gather strategies to support the relationship in the context of each person’s recovery. A brief educational component covers the latest research on the science of addiction.
A Roadmap for the Journey was developed specifically for couples navigating the challenging journey from active addiction to recovery. Whether recovery is new or well-established, A Roadmap for the Journey provides opportunities for new insights, tools, and strategies to integrate recovery into family and couple life.
For more information on bringing a workshop to your area, please contact Katie Reynolds at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Brief presentations, role-play demonstrations, and experiential exercises are designed to help couples address the challenges of recovery. You will receive workshop materials and break-out spaces to practice the tools and techniques. A team of addiction and relationship specialists provide support during the exercises to help integrate these new research-based tools into couple and family life.
Who will benefit from this workshop?
Roadmap for the Journey is for couples with one or both partners in early recovery with at least 6 months of sobriety, as well as for couples with long-term sobriety. Addictions include: alcohol, drugs, gambling, internet, love/sex, exercise, work, shopping/spending, compulsive eating, or internet/gaming, and more. If you have questions about your individual situation please contact Dr. Navarra to evaluate on a case-by-case basis. All registered participants will be contacted for a brief, confidential interview for orientation, to answer questions, and determine if the workshop is an appropriate match.
