Elizabeth (Liz) is the Director of The Relationship Therapy Centre in an holds registration as an Australian Psychologist. Elizabeth is also the author and creator of Parenting as a Team which is a program for couples to unite and help each other during parenting stress (launch in 2024). Elizabeth integrates contemporary attachment theory and the application of reflective function into her clinical and teaching work. Liz provides Marathon Therapy for couples in her private practice in Sydney.

Trish Purnell-Webb

Trish Purnell-Webb is a Clinical Psychologist, a Gottman Level 3 Trainer, Therapist and Consultant with over 20 years experience in the field.  Trish travelled to North America several times in the past 10 years to be trained directly by Drs John and Julie Gottman. She is certified to present all three levels of the Gottman Method training sequence, as well as the Art & Science of Love couples workshop.  Trish frequently presents Gottman Method trainings for clinicians throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia.  Trish has also undertaken training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples having completed an externship and all Core Skills training offered by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy and integrates this into her work with couples.

Because of Trish’s expertise in couples therapy and clinical mental health disorders especially Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Mood Disorder, Trish has been involved in the development and delivery of a number of couples programs for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, The Australian Defence Force and the Australian Veterans and Veteran’s Families Counselling Service. Trish has been in private practice on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia since 1997 and provides a range of services to members of the general public including couples therapy, intensive marathon couples therapy, online couples therapy, couples workshops, and is an active educator and speaker to many community and professional organisations.
As a presenter, Trish is regarded as an engaging, personable, erudite and respectful speaker who is able to connect easily with her audiences and use every day examples and humour to illustrate her point and assist listeners’ understanding of concepts and ideas. Trish is regularly invited to make comment in media including print, radio and television.

Trish is a clinical psychologist with special interests in couples therapy, trauma, and the training and mentoring of intern psychologists and therapists generally. She has been working with couples since 1998 and has found the Gottman Method Couples Therapy to be the most successful and reliable evidenced based approach around. She has many years of experience working with war veterans and their partners who present with a complex array of clinical issues in addition to their relationship problems. Trish is an experienced Australian Psychology Board approved supervisor with more than 15 years of training and mentoring intern psychologists to full registration. Her approach is supportive, pragmatic and commonsense mixed with a little creative mischievousness.

Trish was the first certified Australian Certified Gottman Therapist and is an approved Trainer for Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Gottman Professional Training Workshops and the Art and Science of Love Couples Workshop which she runs regularly around Australia. Trish is passionate about developing a strong professional and well trained network of Gottman therapists throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia and has established the Relationship Institute Australasia as the mechanism to achieve this.

John Flanagan

Since completing his Bachelor of Social Work in 1988 and later a Masters in Gestalt Therapy, John has had an extensive history in direct service delivery with couples and families. John has dedicated his career to attaining a high level of expertise in his field of practice and is committed to strengthening relationship therapy practices in Australasia.

John was the first Social Worker in Australia to become a Certified Gottman Therapist, Level 3 Trainer and Consultant. This means that John has completed all levels of training and mentoring available through the Gottman Institute in Seattle, USA and can now provide training to other therapists in this modality as well as provide couples with world-class couple workshop experiences. He is one of only a small group of therapists in the world to hold this standing.

John is a certified presenter for all levels of Gottman therapist training and The Art and Science of Love Couples Workshop. He has completed his Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and has delivered a broad range of training both accredited and non-accredited. He is an engaging and energic speaker committed to promoting an excellent learning environment and experience for participants

John is also completed training in several therapeutic modalities such, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Gestalt Therapy

Over the last 20 years, John has provided a range of psycho-educational group programs for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and the Australian Defence Force to Australian veterans and their families in areas such as trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety and resilience. He has provided training to therapists and human service organisations in Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, USA and New Zealand.

John has had a wonderful journey working with couples and families for over three decades. He is a Mental Health Accredited Social Worker and has completed a Masters in Gestalt Therapy. After years of conversations with his business partner they established the Relationship Institute Australasia in 2012. Their guiding principle is to use Gottman Method Couples Therapy to help people build, repair and rejuvenate strong, sustainable relationships. To this end John has been delivering Gottman training to therapists across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, including Gottman Level 1, 2, 3 and the Art and Science of Love Workshop, as well as working as a relationship therapist in a busy private practice.

John has also continued to have a strong engagement in working with Australian Veterans and has a focus on trauma and PTSD for both the individual and in relation to the impact on relationships and families. The Gottman Consultation process is an exciting and challenging learning experience that greatly improves the consultees capacities, skills and confidence in working with couple. John believes in creating a safe, supportive and growth orientated climate within the consultation that promotes learning.
