Frequently Asked Questions

  • The challenge will run from Monday, March 25 to Monday, May 27.

  • The deadline to register is Sunday, March 24.

  • You’re welcome to register now and complete the dates later. If you do this, we’d recommend creating a folder in your email inbox and saving the emails in the folder so you can easily access them later.

However, keep in mind that couples participating in the challenge as it happens will have the opportunity to share their experiences with the Facebook group, so if you’re completing the challenge at your own pace, you may not be able to chime in.

  • By participating in the challenge, we provide a structure to walk you through the book and encourage accountability. You also receive access to supplemental materials, an online community of other couples, and a live Q&A with John and Julie Gottman (date to be announced).

  • This challenge is intended for couples. When you sign up, you have the option to enter your partner’s name and email so they can also receive the emails. If not, you can read the emails together or you can forward them to your partner.

  • The price is $30 USD per couple, non-refundable, and does not include a copy of Eight Dates. If you do not have the book, you will need to purchase it separately to participate in the challenge.

  • The registration price is $30 USD, regardless of whether you include a partner’s information.

  • Yes! Dates don’t have to be expensive. In fact, they don’t have to cost anything at all. Pack a picnic, go for a walk, sit in a park. There are endless ways to spend time together without breaking the bank. For more ideas, check out this blog post.

  • You will need to have dedicated, uninterrupted time to go on your dates. It is recommended that you either find childcare or go on the dates after the kids have been put to bed. For more information on handling childcare, click here.

  • Yes. The Eight Dates Challenge is not intended to replace the book.

During the challenge, we reference specific pages in Eight Dates, so you won’t be able to follow along without a copy of it. When you register for the challenge, the book is not included in your order and will need to be purchased separately.

The book is offered by several booksellers, including Amazon, B&N, and Indiebound. Shipping cost and speed varies by seller.

  • Some couples enjoy popcorn reading together from one book, while others prefer to each have their own copy, so they can read at their own pace. Whether you decide to purchase one or two copies of the book is up to you.

  • Eight Dates is not available as an audiobook at this time. However, you can find the eBook version on Kindle, Kobo, and eBooks.com.

  • We do not offer refunds for this challenge.

  • You will need at least one copy of Eight Dates, which you can purchase on Amazon, B&N, and Indiebound. All other information will be covered in the syllabus email that you receive on Monday, March 25.

  • You will receive the following emails from us:

    • Order confirmation email and welcome email (immediately after purchase)
    • Syllabus email (Monday, March 25)
    • Challenge emails (Monday, April 1 to Monday, May 27)
  • You can update your information in the preference center, linked at the bottom of each email you receive.

  • If you are not receiving the emails, try the following in your email inbox:

    • Check your spam folder
    • Check your “Promotions” folder
    • Search for emails sent from the address reply@mail.gottman.com

If you still cannot find the emails, please reach out to us here and we can provide you with more assistance.

  • We sure do! If you find this challenge to be a really positive experience for your relationship, the next step would be to attend a couples workshop or purchase the home study set.
