Frequently Asked Questions on Research
Q. I would like to read some of Dr. Gottman’s research. Can you send me some of his papers?
A. We have summarized a list of key research articles on this site at Research Abstracts where you can link to many of Dr. Gottman’s important articles. If you seek academic books on his research, you might wish to read What Predicts Divorce from Lawrence A.Erlbaum. A new book, The Mathematics of Marriage will be out in late 2002 from MIT Press. If you are seeking additional sources, may we recommend that you use a search engine such as PsychInfo, which you can find at most university libraries, in order to obtain the references to the articles you seek, and then use your local library to get copies of those articles.
Q. I would like for Dr. Gottman to review my research proposal/dissertation proposal. Can I send it to him?
A. Dr. Gottman is enthusiastically involved in the exchange of ideas through reading and responding to academic papers and research proposals. Unfortunately, his time is highly limited and structured, and it is not possible for him to respond to such general queries.
Q. Can my partner and I be research subjects at the Family Research Laboratory? Or just pay a fee to go through the laboratory assessment if there isn’t a study going on for which we qualify?
A. The Family Research Laboratory sometimes seeks subjects--currently they are recruiting for the People to Parents/Bringing Baby Home project. You can telephone 206-616-5501. As for paying a fee to go through the laboratory assessment, this service is not available to the general public.
