Frequently Asked Questions about the Level - II Training Seminar

Q. I’ve watched Marital Therapy: A Research-Based Approach, the videotape series of the two-day training. Will that substitute for attending the two-day workshop as a pre-requisite to the Advanced Study Seminar?
A. Yes. Clinicians can purchase and watch the 14-hour clinical video/DVD to fulfill their pre-requisite for the Level-II Training. If you choose this option, you will be asked to complete a short test on the material prior to admission to the Advanced Study program.

Q. Will there be small group work to practice the techniques?
A. Yes. Participants will be divided into groups of four, each taking the role of “therapist,” “husband,” “wife” or "observer." They will role play scenarios that demonstrate particular issues or techniques. These role plays occur over 3 days, so everyone will have the opportunity to practice their skills.

Q. How can I be sure if my state will accept this program for continuing education credits?
A. This Level-II training seminar has been approved for continuing education credits by major professional organizations—the American Psychological Association and the National Board for Certified Counselors. The seminar is co-sponsored by Amedco for social workers in many states. Additionally, The Gottman Institute is in the process of having the seminar co-sponsored by Amedco and submitted for review to additional approval bodies. However, each state has different requirements; please contact your state licensing board to find out what is required for your profession. You may also contact Amedco at 800-314-1921 for information on continuing education requirements and coverage in your state and particular discipline.

Q. If I am not seeking certification with The Gottman Institute, may I get a reduction in the registration fee?
A. The registration fee is for the Level-II training only, covering in-depth study and discussion of the Gottman Method. Certification as a Certified Gottman Therapist™ involves a separate training process; therefore, we are not able to reduce the fee.

Q. Does the registration fee also include housing and meals?
A. In addition to the educational component, the registration fee includes morning coffee and pastries, plus an afternoon snack. Housing, lunch and evening meals are the attendees' responsibility. Information is provided to participants about various options for hotel accommodations.

Q. What happens if I register and then unexpectedly need to cancel?
A. We recognize that plans sometimes change. Prior to three weeks of the Level-II Workshop or Certification Training program, you can receive a full refund minus a $75 administrative fee.  Whinin three weeks of the program, only workshop or product credit will be issued.
