Drs. John and Julie Gottman present The Gottman Institute's Weekend Workshop for Couples, The Art & Science of Love, in Seattle, WA. In the workshop the Gottmans share humorous stories and role-plays, some of which are from their true-life experiences. Their style is clear, informative, and supportive. When participants describe their experience at the workshop, they talk about the presenters' generous energy and compassion. They value the vivid clarity, useful intelligence, and generous humor the Gottmans share at the workshop.

Drs. John and Julie Gottman co-founded the Gottman Institute in 1996. The Gottman Institute presents five couples workshops per year in Seattle. In addition, the Gottmans co-present Advanced Study and Certification Training  for therapists several times per year.                                              
Workshop Presenter: John Gottman, Ph.D                  John Gottman is world renowned for his work on marital stability and divorce prediction, involving the study of emotions, physiology, and communication. His breakthrough research on marriage and parenting has earned him numerous major awards.  Dr. Gottman is the author or co-author of 119 published academic articles and 37 books on marriage, relationships and parenting.  John has appeared on numerous TV programs, including: “Oprah”, “Good Morning America”, "20/20", "Prime Time", and “CBS Morning News". Articles about him have appeared in The New York Times, Newsweek, USA Today, Psychology Today, Family Circle, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, Glamour, Woman's Day, People, Men's Health Self, and Reader’s Digest. He is an emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Washington and founded the Family Research Laboratory (or what the media has termed "The Love Lab") where much of his ongoing research on couples and was conducted. He is currently Executive Director of the Relationship Research Institute. Workshop Presenter: Julie Schwartz Gottman, Ph.D.   Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman is cofounder and Clinical Director of the Gottman Institute and co-teaches the Institute's Advanced Training programs for therapists and The Art and Science of Love Couples Weekend Workshop™ with Dr. John Gottman. Julie co-founded The Gottman Institute and established its affiliated  Relationship Center and Referral Network. As Clinical Director, she has designed and provided marriage workshops, gay and lesbian relationship workshops, basic and advanced clinicians’ trainings, community talks, consultation services, educational products, and a clinic for private couple therapy. Julie is  in private practice in Seattle, Washington. She is a widely recognized expert for her work with individuals, couples and group psychotherapy treatment. She specializes in work with individuals and couples who suffer from marital distress, childhood abuse, post traumatic stress disorder, or cancer. Julie has been a frequent guest on radio and TV talk shows throughout the United States and Canada. Julie's commitment to excellence and integrity has assured that, as the Gottman Institute grows, the Institute continues to maintain the highest ethical and scientific standards. Roving Therapists
During the skill building exercises in the workshop, Certified Gottman Therapists™ serve as “roving support therapists” to support couples one-on-one with their exercises. These therapists hold degrees in a variety of mental health disciplines, including doctorates in psychology, master’s degrees in marriage and family therapy, social work, clinical psychology, and counseling psychology. Of our current Certified Gottman Therapists, three hold degrees of Master’s of Divinity in non-denominational Christianity.

Certified Gottman Therapists have many years of experience in providing individual, couples, and family therapy. Trained by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, Certified Gottman Therapists are experts in providing the research-based couples therapy method designed by the Gottmans.

In addition to years of psychotherapy training and experience, and mastery of Gottman Method Couples Therapy™, Certified Gottman Therapists possess unique skills, interest, and expertise in a variety of specialty areas. They are well qualified to fulfill the many roles of therapist, couples workshop leader, “roving therapists,” and consultants in the Certificate Program of the Gottman Relationship Center and Referral Network.

Certified Gottman Couples Workshop Leaders
Certified Gottman Couples Workshop Leaders are Certified Gottman Therapists who have received additional training by The Gottman Institute to present couples workshops. All workshop leaders use The Art and Science of Love curriculum designed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman.
