Certified Gottman Therapists

Certified Gottman Therapists™* operate their own private practices, are highly skilled clinicians, and have been trained and certified by Drs. John and Julie Gottman to provide Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Through the Gottman Relationship Center and Referral Network these clinicians provide therapy and education to couples, families, and individuals. Another 100 experienced therapists around the world are in training with John and Julie Gottman and Gottman senior faculty. Certified Gottman Therapists hold varying degrees in a variety of mental health disciplines, including doctorates in psychology, master’s degrees in social work, clinical psychology, and counseling psychology. Several hold Master’s of Divinity in non-denominational Christianity.

All Certified Gottman Therapists have completed a basic training program, an Advanced Study seminar and a Gottman Certification Training program that includes personal supervision by a Certified Gottman Consultant. Gottman Certification Training takes at least 18 months.

After receiving certification, Certified Gottman Therapists may then choose to join The Gottman Relationship Center and Referral Network. Some Certified Gottman Therapists have received additional training from the Gottmans to be presenters at couples workshops and professional training workshops, teaching the research-based skills designed by the Gottman. In addition, they offer consultation and training to clinicians worldwide in Dr. John Gottman’s research and method of couples therapy.
