The Relationship Research Institute (RRI) is an affiliated but separate organization created to foster research on marriage, couples, parenting, and families. Dr. John Gottman created the research institute as a means of advancing an ambitious and independent research agenda and to assure that there would be a place dedicated to sponsoring research that is of the highest scientific rigor. This free standing, independent institute was founded to pursue this commitment to conducting research that has current applications.
The Four Pillars of RRI
- FIRST pillar: A legacy of creative and scientific rigor is the of the Relationship Research Institute.
- SECOND pillar: The research be responsive and relevant to the immediate needs of families. RRI conducts research that will be meaningful to the everyday lives of men, women, children and families.
- THIRD pillar: The commitment to assuring that the Institute’s research results are available and accessible to the public and to other researchers in the scientific community. The Institute has a commitment to making research results available through papers submitted to peer reviewed professional journals, professional meetings, and through books and articles written about this work.
- FORTH pillar: The Relationship Research Institute is that its research be used to change policy and the institutions in society that reach out to families. For example, in the 'Bringing Baby Home' project, the goal is to change hospitals so that they will provide interventions sensitive to the needs of families undergoing the transition to parenthood.
In order to fulfill its mission, RRI seeks funding from independent foundations that share our interest. For more information on our current projects, please visit us at www.rrinstitute.com
